Poultry mutilation possibly involving paranormal phenomena
Field Report #4
Prepared by Special Agent Dana Scully
I examined the second chicken carcass at 08:00 hrs, while only Agent Mulder and myself were present. Ms. Amos spent the remainder of the night in a chair in Reznor's bedroom, and, after checking for signs of concussion, Christopher Vrenna was allowed to return to his residence.
The chicken was dismembered with what was most likely a long-bladed
butcher knife, using several decisive strokes. A search of Reznor's
kitchen turned up a serrated steak knife and 3 plastic "sporks," but no
knife matching the description of the one used to cut apart the chicken.
It is worth noting that the same type of butcher knife was used in the
August 1969 slayings of Sharon Tate, Abigail Folger, Jay Sebring and
Voytek Frytowski. Ms. Amos confirmed that Reznor possessed no such knife.
It is my belief that Reznor is the victim of a series of threatening pranks, which would have been played on anyone choosing to reside in the house. It is also possible that the intruder entered while the electricity was interrupted and the security system compromised, although that does not explain how the intruder knew the electricity would be out or how he or she entered and left the house so quickly and without leaving evidence behind. The closest exit to the kitchen is through the service porch and out into the back lawn, which, due to the recent rains, is soft and muddy. Agent Mulder and I made a thorough inspection of the grounds, and found no footprints that could not be attributed to members of the household. Agent Mulder cannot account for this finding, either, though he has modified his theory, agreeing with Ms. Amos that the recent happenings are possibly the result of "restless spirits." Why such spirits would choose to terrorize through something as mundane as mechanical disturbances and fouling of food products, he cannot answer.
I informed Reznor of my findings this afternoon. He was still in bed, and refused to eat despite Ms. Amos' and my suggestions. His mood alternated between quiet apathy and cynicism. I asked him again whether or not he could account for the missing six hours and why there were traces of cornmeal breading in his bed, but he just stared at me, then said, "Doctor Scully, you've already made up your mind, so why should I bother answering you?"
I asked him why he requested an investigation in the first place. He told me, reluctantly, that he had acceded to Ms. Amos' wish that a thorough investigation of the house take place, and that Agent Mulder and I conduct it.
According to Reznor, "Tori's been following your partner's career for awhile. And what she wants, she generally gets. Yeah, it gets pretty fucking weird around here at times, especially at night, but I can live with it, at least until I finish the album. Which, thanks to Podboy and your partner, is gonna take a hell of a lot longer now."
I reminded Reznor that it had been his final decision that we investigate the incident, then told him that we would most likely be leaving that afternoon, and that he would be reimbursed for the destroyed equipment.
While Agent Mulder still continues to further the idea of paranormal
forces acting within the Tate house, I can find no evidence whatsoever to
support this. It is my final opinion that the events surrounding X-File
case #99327 were the result of actions by person or persons unknown.
